Hummingbird Feeders

There are basically 2 categories of hummingbird feeders; gravity and vacuum.  Within those 2 categories are many different styles from many different materials.  They can be made very simply (molded plastic) or more decorative (glass), with accents of wood, copper, beads, metal or more.  They are found to be plain or colorful, large or small, 1 feeding port or many.   Most hummingbird feeders are hung from a pole or branch, they can also be atop their own stakes for self mounting or be window mounted by suction.  Some styles hold only a small amount of nectar, others hold up to a quart.

Some people purchase their hummingbird feeders for practicality.  They want a size large enough to provide nectar for a couple of days and to be easy to clean. Others want the feeder to be a decorative statement in their yard, a piece of artwork.  Still others have many hummers in their yard and are looking for the largest reservoir.  The hummers don't care, they just want the nectar.  We offer sizes, colors and styles to please everyone.  One a small fraction are offered on this website.

The gravity style basically has a cavity to hold the nectar, either flat at the bottom of the feeder or an upward cylinder.  There are usually several feeding ports.  Vacuum feeders generally have only 1 feeding port, usually a tube coming out the bottom from which the hummer will eat.  The tube is in a rubber stopper that fits into the bottom of the vessel and a vacuum is formed when the feeder turned over and hung.

Hummingbirds are very territorial and if you are blessed to have many of these visitors to your garden, you may experience them fighting for their rights to the feeder.  They don't share very well.

Nectar can be purchased from a boxed mix or you can make your own.  We prefer the nectar WITHOUT any red dye as the dye has proven harmful to the hummers kidneys and can cause birth defects.
